I have written a nice script, and now I want to start filming. First I will read some more books about filmmaking.
Now the big question: where and how can I find people that want to act in my short film? I need four people, if I want to follow what's in my script. I don't have the money to pay any fee, or whatever. I have heard about a film that only had actors that came from the directors family. They acted very well, actually. The film has been released in some art-house movie theaters. It's called "Clouds In May (aka "Wolken in Mei). Unfortunately, there is no acting talent within my family. I will have to look at other places. Any recommendations?

i would seriously advise against casting friends especially ones with big ego's the acting talent is out there you just got to look shooting people is great.
word of mouth is also good,
not good is working on other peoples shorts and nicking there cast, thats just not cricket
funny thing is though the guy i casted as a soldier in deadlights is now off to join the army, im just about to embark on afilm with nuns in it, be interesting to see if anyone becomes a nun after it,
anyway seek and you will find

Ask around!
Put posters up in Local schools if you need Kids, Colleges if you need older people...
I recently shot a short film, and it turned out that one of my actors (who played a Cop/Homeless person) was actually a Cop in real life!!!
Speak to people, see if your local Uni has a list of mailing lists you can use to post a request, (that's what I did and I ended up with a copule of real good people)...
Also, don't worry about the no budget thing of it either...
I interviewed the cast before I brought them on board, and when I told them it was a no budget film, they were not surprised in the slightest! They told me not to worry, they wanted to do it because they wanted to act!
I also managed to get my cameraman through a friend, and he works in a large TV broadcasting company in the UK! (For free!).
Spend what little budget you DO have on a proper boom mike, and a decent camera...
It'll be worth it in the end!

What I mean was my cameraman worked for ME for free, not the TV company...
Just thought I'd clear that up.
